Lemon wood is prized in Moroccan workshops for its light, even color, which throws the darker thuya border and the inlaid mother of pearl into sharp relief. Amal typically takes the lead on pieces like this one — the pearl is cut into small tiles, fitted into a hand-routed channel, and set flush with the surrounding wood before the whole tray is sanded through progressively finer grits and polished by hand. Because the pearl is a natural material, its color runs from near-white to soft pink and green depending on how the light falls across it. No two trays carry quite the same shimmer.
