Every other box in the collection uses inlay to draw the eye. This one deliberately doesn't. It's cut from a single piece of dense root burl, chosen specifically for the intensity of its swirling, knotted grain, then shaped and polished with nothing added — the wood carries the whole design. This is the box Simohammed points to when explaining what "root burl" actually means: the burl grows underground at the base of the tree, packed with tight, chaotic grain from decades of stress and slow growth, which is what gives thuya root its density, its color depth, and its strong cedar-like scent. It locks with a small brass key and is left with a natural hand-polished finish rather than a heavy lacquer, so the wood keeps breathing and the scent stays present for years.

Care

Wipe with a dry cloth only. A drop of mineral oil worked into the surface once or twice a year will keep the burl's natural scent and sheen alive.
