The hidden compartment in this box is a traditional touch: a false bottom, released by a small catch disguised in the marquetry, that opens into a shallow space below the main lined interior. It is a detail Simohammed learned from his own father and still cuts by hand on select pieces rather than building it into every box in the line. The lid carries a mother of pearl pattern set into the thuya, and the whole box locks with a brass key, making it equally suited to jewelry storage or as a keepsake box for something meant to stay hidden.
Each piece is unique. Thuya burl grain never repeats, so the exact tone, figure, and inlay pattern of the item you receive will vary slightly from the photographs shown.
