The two-games-in-one box is a workshop staple because it uses every marquetry skill the ateliers practices daily: the chessboard squares are cut and set in alternating light and dark wood, the backgammon points on the interior faces are laid out in a contrasting arabesque border, and the whole case is hinged and finished like any other thuya box in the collection. Playing pieces and dice are stored inside the closed case, which latches shut for travel. It's built as a proper game board first — the squares are sized and leveled for real play — and as a decorative box second.
Each piece is unique. Thuya burl grain never repeats, so the exact tone, figure, and inlay pattern of the item you receive will vary slightly from the photographs shown.
